Q1. BINITEC has established itself as a regional provider of precision measurement, inspection, and calibration solutions for the petroleum and aviation sectors. Can you tell us about the origins of the group and the vision that drives it today?
A1. BINITEC was established to meet a growing regional demand for high-precision measurement, inspection, and calibration services. From the outset, we focused on two of the most highly regulated industries—petroleum and aviation—and quickly built a reputation for putting quality above all else. Today, BINITEC is far more than a service provider; we position ourselves as a key protector of industrial safety and asset integrity. Our vision is to bridge the gap between global cutting-edge NDT technologies and local market needs, ensuring the sustainable growth of Libya's and the region's energy and aviation sectors.
Q2. Inspection and calibration are often described as the invisible backbone of industrial safety. How would you explain the importance of this discipline to decision-makers focused on production targets and cost control?
A2. For decision-makers focused on production and cost control, inspection and calibration are not a cost center—they are an insurance policy for productivity and profitability. Equipment failures are rarely sudden; cracks propagate under cyclic stress, corrosion advances under coatings, and wall thickness diminishes due to erosion and chemical exposure. These are measurable and predictable conditions. In Libya's tough desert and offshore environments, material degradation accelerates under high temperatures, sand-laden winds, pressure fluctuations, and continuous operation. Without systematic inspection, minor defects escalate into operational disruptions, safety hazards, and costly downtime. NDT, whether traditional or advanced, is not reactive—it is preventive risk control. One precise measurement today can prevent millions in losses and immeasurable safety consequences tomorrow.
Q3. Much of Libya's energy infrastructure has been in service for decades. From a technical standpoint, what are the most common integrity challenges you encounter, and how do modern NDT technologies address them?
A3. Much of Libya's energy infrastructure has been in service for decades. The most common integrity challenges include: pipeline corrosion and wall-thickness reduction, cathodic protection failure in high-resistivity desert soils, and borehole integrity degradation caused by corrosive media such as H₂S & CO₂.
Modern NDT technologies address these issues with precision:
• Ultrasonic Testing (UT) identifies metal loss before it reaches minimum allowable limits.
• Phased Array (PAUT) and Matrix Array (MAUT) provide high-resolution, real-time C-scan imaging of internal material
conditions.
• Electromagnetic and acoustic pulse technologies diagnose wellbore integrity without intrusive intervention.
• Remote corrosion monitoring systems enable continuous, non-intrusive surveillance of pipelines and equipment.
• Asset Integrity Management services.
These technologies, all of which BINITEC supplies, allow us to accurately assess asset health without stopping production
or destroying the component.
Q4. BINITEC represents some of the world's leading testing and measurement manufacturers. What criteria guide your choice of international partners, and how do you adapt their technologies to regional operating conditions?
A4. BINITEC represents 30 different NDT suppliers from all over the world and selects its international partners based on three core criteria: technological leadership, proven reliability, and a long-term commitment to the regional market. We have established official distribution and collaboration agreements with world-class manufacturers such as Dolphitech (Norway, for MAUT core technology) and Sensor Networks, Inc. (USA, for corrosion monitoring). Dr-Systems, AVC, Testia, eintek, ZChem, Nexsen, IT Concept…etc. However, we do not simply "import and deploy." We actively adapt these technologies to Libyan operating conditions — calibrating equipment for extreme temperatures, high dust loads, and humidity, customizing operational procedures, and designing site-specific deployment plans. Importantly, we provide local technical support, warranty coverage, and hands-on training and technology transfer to ensure these advanced tools deliver their full potential in our unique environment.
Q5. Serving both oil & gas and aviation places BINITEC at the intersection of two highly regulated industries. How does expertise in one strengthen your capabilities in the other?
A5. Operating across two highly regulated industries—oil & gas and aviation—has given BINITEC a unique technical depth through dual-standard exposure. Both sectors share strict safety cultures, quality management systems, and material inspection standards. The strict requirements of aviation for composite material testing (such as our Dolphicam2 applications) have elevated our capabilities when inspecting advanced materials in the petroleum sector. Conversely, our extensive experience with large-diameter pipelines, thick-walled pressure vessels, and extreme environmental conditions in oil & gas enriches our approach to aviation ground-support infrastructure. This cross-sharing of expertise enables us to tackle complex technical challenges from a much broader, more integrated perspective.
Q6. As Libya works to increase production, demand for qualified inspection and maintenance services is expected to grow significantly. Where do you see the most pressing gaps in the local services market?
A6. As Libya works to increase production, we see three critical gaps in the local inspection and maintenance market: First, a severe shortage of highly skilled, internationally certified NDT engineers. The local workforce lacks sufficient numbers of qualified personnel trained in modern inspection methodologies. Especially Level III personnel, in both oil & gas and aviation sectors. Second, limited availability of advanced inspection equipment. Many local operators still rely on outdated, less efficient conventional methods. Third, insufficient systemic asset integrity management capabilities. Isolated inspections are not enough—the market
requires comprehensive frameworks covering Risk-Based Inspection (RBI), corrosion management, and pipeline integrity management. This is precisely where BINITEC's core competence lies, and we are actively working to fill this void.
Q7. Developing national technical talent is a priority across Libya's energy sector. What role can specialized companies like BINITEC play in training Libyan engineers in NDT, metrology, and calibration?

Q8. Digital technologies from drone-based inspection to AI-supported predictive maintenance are transforming the field. Which innovations do you expect to deliver real impact in the region in the near term?
A8. Our roots are in healthcare — ultrasound, X-ray, and endoscopes. Looking ahead, we expect three digital innovations to bring real impact to our region soon: First, drone-based inspections. Drones can safely access hazardous areas—flare stacks, elevated pipe racks, and offshore platforms—capturing high-resolution imaging data and dramatically improving coverage and worker safety. Second, AI-driven predictive maintenance. By deploying edge-AI modules for on-site, real-time image processing, we can instantly identify corrosion, leaks, or overheating. This reduces data transmission costs by up to five times. Combined with historical data, AI can predict equipment failure timelines, shifting maintenance from "scheduled" to "condition-based." Third, digital twin modeling. By constructing a comprehensive 3D model of an asset using continuous inspection data, operators can simulate and track performance degradation trends over time, providing an unprecedented visual basis for maintenance and replacement decisions.
Q9. Libya is working to re-establish itself as a key player in the regional energy landscape, supported by its strategic location and Mediterranean access. What does this moment mean for specialized service providers, and where do you see the greatest opportunities emerging across the country?
