Strategic Upgrades to Maximize Gas Output
Trillion Energy, a Canadian oil and gas company, is ramping up production efforts at the SASB gas field in the Southwestern Black Sea off the coast of Türkiye. In January 2025, the company installed new velocity string tubing in two tripod wells—Alapli-2 and Bayhanli-2—over a two-week period. This enhancement brings the total to six wells equipped with smaller tubing to counteract water loading issues, a common challenge in offshore gas production.
Despite these efforts, stable long-term flow rates have yet to be achieved, largely due to storm-related delays in nitrogen injection operations. The company is now preparing to stimulate Akcakoca-3 and South Akcakoca-2 wells using nitrogen, contingent on improved weather conditions.
New Technologies to Sustain Production
To further optimize gas recovery, Trillion Energy has acquired a gas lift compressor system for the Akcakoca platform, designed to enable continuous gas lifting injection in select wells. Additionally, the company plans to install a Progressive Cavity Pump (PCP) in one well and deploy two slim-hole Electric Submersible Pumps (ESPs) to enhance extraction efficiency.
Investment & Future Outlook
The SASB gas field represents one of the largest natural gas development projects in the Turkish Black Sea, supporting Türkiye’s efforts to increase domestic energy security. With gas demand in Türkiye exceeding 45 billion cubic meters annually, Trillion Energy’s investments align with the country’s goal to reduce reliance on imported gas and strengthen local supply chains.
By implementing advanced well technologies and modern artificial lift solutions, Trillion Energy is positioning itself as a key player in Türkiye’s offshore gas sector, ensuring sustained production growth in the region.
