Sirte Oil Production and Manufacturing Company has successfully completed operational testing of the metering station, marking a key milestone in the project to supply the Sirte Steam Power Plant with natural gas.
The successful testing marks the completion of the project's first phase, which aims to connect the Sirte Steam Power Plant to Libya's natural gas network and replace liquid fuels with natural gas.
The next phase will include filling the branch pipeline and the pressure reduction station before gas begins flowing to the plant's generating units. Remaining operational tests are expected to be completed shortly, with natural gas supplies scheduled to begin within the coming days.
The project is expected to improve the power plant's operational efficiency, reduce reliance on liquid fuels, lower operating costs, and support environmental objectives through increased use of natural gas.
This development reflects the National Oil Corporation's (NOC) continued efforts to strengthen cooperation between Libya's oil and electricity sectors. Expanding the use of natural gas for power generation supports energy security, optimizes domestic resource utilization, and reinforces Libya's long-term energy infrastructure development.
