Major Natural Gas discovery in Türkiye’s Thrace region

The Thrace Basin Natural Gas Company (TBNG) has announced a significant Natural Gas discovery in Türkiye's Thrace region, valued at $91.9 million and involving four newly drilled wells.

Boosting production capacity

As part of the 2024 New Exploration Project, supported by the Presidential Investment Office, TBNG's new wells in Silivri and Tekirdağ were developed with a $10 million investment. This discovery is expected to increase TBNG’s daily Natural Gas production capacity by 50%, reaching 125,000 cubic meters.

Strategic goals for Energy independence

According to TBNG's CEO, Sinan Furat, this discovery is crucial for reducing Türkiye's Energy imports. Utilizing Turkish engineering expertise, the production phase has begun, with plans to deliver gas to local businesses. This aligns with Türkiye's strategy to decrease its foreign Energy dependency from 71% in 2021 to under 50% in the next decade and to 13% by 2053.

Regional impact and future prospects

The discovery enhances Türkiye's Energy self-sufficiency and promises economic benefits for the Thrace region. Following the successful model of Türkiye's state Energy company, Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), this project underscores the potential for further exploration and development. Increased Natural Gas production will support the local economy and contribute to national Rnergy security.

Overview

This significant Natural Gas discovery in Türkiye's Thrace region marks a pivotal step towards Energy independence. With increased production capacity and strategic investments, Türkiye is ready to make substantial progress in reducing reliance on foreign Energy sources.
