Petronas Carigali, Malaysia's premier Upstream company, prepares for major appraisals

Petronas Carigali, the leading upstream entity in Malaysia, is set to appraise two significant Oil and Gas discoveries made in 2023: Singsing and Kalung Emas. This initiative follows an extensive exploration campaign launched late last year. The Kalung Emas-2 well, located on Block SK 315 in the resource-rich West Luconia province offshore Sarawak, will be drilled using Velesto Energy’s advanced jack-up rig, Naga 6. Supporting vessels for this high-impact operation include the Perdana Marathon and ASL Synergy. This new endeavor follows Naga 6’s recent activity at the Anding-A platform offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

Advanced infrastructure and tactical drilling operations

Simultaneously, Petronas Carigali will commence the appraisal of the Singsing discovery on Block SK 313, also situated in the promising West Luconia province. The Singsing-2 well will be drilled using the state-of-the-art semi-submersible rig Hakuryu 5, owned by the Japan Drilling Company. The drilling operations will be supported by vessels such as Setia Hijrah and Hai Duong 67. These critical drilling operations are expected to conclude by September 10. The Singsing discovery is one of seven remarkable oil and gas finds off the Sarawak coast during Petronas Carigali’s exploration program from late 2022 to mid-2023.

Innovative exploration techniques yield exceptional results

These significant discoveries highlight the untapped potential of Malaysia’s hydrocarbon basins. Petronas Carigali’s executive vice president and chief executive of upstream, Adif Zulkifli, emphasized the company’s innovative ‘clustered exploration’ approach, which has been crucial in these achievements. This advanced exploration strategy is particularly effective in highly mature geological provinces, facilitating more precise and efficient resource identification and extraction.

Bright future for Malaysia's Energy sector

Petronas Carigali's ongoing innovation in exploration methodologies underscores the immense potential and future prospects of Malaysia's Oil and Gas sector. These efforts are expected to attract further investment and drive substantial development in the region. The company's success with discoveries such as Nahara, Gedombak, Mirdanga, Machinchang, and Pangkin reinforces its leadership position in the industry, fostering growth and innovation in Southeast Asia’s dynamic Energy landscape.
