METLEN has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shell to cooperate in the field of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The MoU establishes a framework to explore the potential supply and trading of approximately 0.5 to 1.0 bcm per year of LNG between 2027 and 2031. The volumes are expected to be delivered to the Greek LNG regasification facilities at Revithoussa and Alexandroupolis, strengthening access to Southeast European markets.
The two companies also intend to explore additional cooperation in LNG and gas trading to facilitate access to European markets through the Vertical Gas Corridor, including potential sales beyond Southeast Europe. This cooperation aims to enhance the security of gas supply in Europe, particularly as the European Union continues its efforts to diversify supply sources and strengthen energy resilience.
METLEN operates a customer-centric energy model in Europe, structuring its sourcing and supply strategy around end-user needs. This approach enables greater flexibility in managing supply flows and responding to market volatility.
The agreement marks another step forward in METLEN’s strategy to diversify its supply portfolio and strengthen its ability to secure stable, long-term energy supplies for its customers. It further reinforces METLEN’s position as a key natural gas player in Southeast Europe and contributes to stronger transatlantic energy cooperation, supporting price stability and energy security across the region.
At the same time, the MoU supports METLEN’s expanding customer base across multiple European countries and underpins its continued growth into new markets.
Evangelos Mytilineos, Executive Chairman of METLEN, stated:
“This MoU with Shell marks an important step in strengthening METLEN’s role in the European natural gas markets. Our cooperation confirms our shared commitment to enhancing Europe’s energy resilience, while supporting Greece’s evolution into a key energy hub in the region.”
