Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) has announced a significant milestone in offshore exploration, following the successful completion of drilling operations in the Bahr Essalam basin.

The exploration well C1-16/4 and the appraisal well B2-16/4, located within the Bahr Essalam 2 and Bahr Essalam 3 structures, were drilled by Eni North Africa as part of its ongoing exploration commitments in the region. Initial assessments indicate the presence of substantial gas reserves, estimated at approximately one trillion cubic feet.

In response to the discovery, NOC has initiated an accelerated development plan to connect the newly drilled wells to the existing Bahr Essalam offshore platform, situated around 16 kilometers from the site. Once operational, the project is expected to contribute an additional 130 million cubic feet of gas per day.

This increase in production capacity will play a key role in supporting Libya’s domestic energy needs while also strengthening its position in international gas markets. The development comes at a time when global demand for reliable gas supplies remains strong.

The discovery further underscores the untapped potential of Libya’s offshore basins and aligns with NOC’s broader strategy to enhance production, optimize resources, and expand collaboration with international energy partners.
