Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding investment in the country's gas sector as part of its long-term strategy to strengthen domestic energy security and support future export potential. Speaking at the opening of the second technical workshop on the Strategic Vision for Natural Gas Development Projects in Libya, NOC Chairman Masoud Suleman outlined the Corporation's priorities for accelerating gas development through stronger international partnerships and new investment.
Suleman emphasised that increasing investment remains at the core of the NOC's vision for developing Libya's gas industry. He encouraged international energy companies to strengthen their presence in the country through new partnerships that expand both onshore and offshore exploration and help convert discoveries into proven reserves.
He noted that greater investment would also support knowledge transfer, create new opportunities for Libya's private sector and national workforce, and contribute to a more attractive investment environment.
The NOC also reaffirmed its commitment to international emissions reduction goals. Suleman highlighted the operational progress already achieved in reducing gas flaring and confirmed that the Corporation will continue working with international partners to move towards near-zero gas flaring while supporting Libya's long-term energy objectives.
The workshop follows the success of its first edition and was organised to review the NOC's strategy for managing Libya's estimated 53 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves. The event, held in Tripoli, brought together senior government officials, NOC leadership, international energy companies and industry experts to discuss future development priorities for the sector.
The NOC's renewed focus on gas development reflects Libya's broader efforts to attract investment and maximise the value of its natural gas resources. Expanding exploration, reducing gas flaring and strengthening international partnerships could improve domestic energy security while creating new opportunities for exports, infrastructure development and long-term growth across Libya's energy sector.
