Libya has increased its oil production to 1.43 million barrels per day (bpd), reaching its highest level in over a decade and reaffirming its strategic role in global energy markets.

According to the National Oil Corporation (NOC), the rise reflects improving operational stability across key production sites. This upward trend aligns with Libya’s long-term objective of reaching 2 million bpd by 2030. For context, production stood at 1.28 million bpd in February, based on OPEC data, highlighting consistent month-on-month growth.

In parallel, the NOC confirmed the full transfer of $1 billion in February oil revenues to the national treasury.

Strategic Importance

The country’s established export infrastructure, including pipelines to Europe and multiple seaborne terminals, further enhances its ability to respond quickly to international demand.

Additionally, recent developments include the awarding of exploration blocks to major international energy companies such as Chevron, Eni, QatarEnergy, and Repsol.

Libya also signed a landmark 25-year oil development agreement valued at over $20 billion with TotalEnergies and ConocoPhillips earlier this year; one of the most significant deals in the country’s recent energy history.

Outlook

With sustained investment and stable operations, the country is positioning itself as a key contributor to global energy security in the years ahead.
