Libya and Egypt have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation across the energy sector, with both governments agreeing to accelerate collaboration on oil and gas exploration, electricity interconnection and downstream energy projects.
The announcement followed a meeting between Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Al-Dbeibeh in New Alamein City, where both sides discussed strengthening bilateral economic and energy relations.
Prime Minister Madbouly highlighted the importance of establishing a clear roadmap for cooperation in natural gas and oil exploration, while also advancing electricity interconnection between the two countries.
He also reaffirmed Egypt's interest in expanding cooperation in natural gas, petroleum refining and other strategic energy projects, building on the Memorandum of Understanding signed by both countries earlier this year covering the oil, gas and mining sectors.
Madbouly underlined Egypt's ongoing efforts to expand electricity interconnection with neighbouring countries, including Libya, describing cross-border power links as an important step toward improving regional energy integration and facilitating electricity exchange across the Arab region.
The discussions also included opportunities for closer coordination between both governments to accelerate joint energy initiatives.
Prime Minister Abdulhamid Al-Dbeibeh reaffirmed Libya's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Egypt, particularly in the energy sector, while encouraging greater participation by Egyptian companies in Libya's infrastructure and construction projects.
He also highlighted opportunities for cooperation in petroleum products, refining, oil and gas exploration, and proposed organising a joint business forum and exhibition to connect Egyptian and Libyan companies and showcase new investment opportunities.
Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi reviewed ongoing cooperation between both countries, particularly in natural gas, while Masoud Suleman, Chairman of Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC), presented proposals to expand collaboration in oil and gas exploration as well as fertiliser production.
The renewed cooperation reflects growing momentum for deeper energy integration between Egypt and Libya. Expanding collaboration in oil, gas and electricity infrastructure could strengthen regional energy security, create new opportunities for investment and cross-border business, and support the long-term development of North Africa's energy sector.
