Singapore and Indonesia: A Growing Energy Partnership
Jadestone Energy, an independent company from Singapore, has been actively expanding its footprint in Indonesia’s energy sector. The Akatara gas field, located on Sumatra Island, represents a major opportunity for Indonesia 🇮🇩 to reduce its reliance on energy imports and support its growing energy needs locally. After committing to the project in 2022, Jadestone officially began production on July 31, 2024. This partnership isn’t just about business—it’s a shared mission between Singapore and Indonesia to create more self-sustaining energy resources in Southeast Asia. Could Akatara be the beginning of a new energy era for the region?
Akatara Gas Field: Final Tweaks in Progress
Despite the good progress, Jadestone’s Akatara Gas Processing Facility (AGPF) still requires some final adjustments. The focus now is on export compressors, which are essential for pressurising gas before it enters the regional pipeline network. Once fully commissioned, these compressors will enable Akatara to process 25 million cubic feet of raw gas per day, allowing Jadestone to meet the Daily Contract Quantity (DCQ) of 20 million cubic feet. CEO Paul Blakeley is confident that these final tweaks will be completed soon, with no additional costs to Jadestone, as the work is the responsibility of the main contractor, JGC Indonesia.
Akatara: Energising Indonesia, One Gas Molecule at a Time
Since Akatara’s gas started flowing, the field has been quietly chipping away at Indonesia's dependence on imported energy. Now capable of producing 20 million cubic feet of gas per day, Akatara will power homes, businesses, and industries across the region. This isn’t just about keeping the lights on—it’s about securing reliable energy for an ever-growing population and booming industries. Imagine Akatara as Indonesia’s very own energy superhero, working behind the scenes to ensure that the country can stand on its own feet when it comes to energy production.
Lighting the Way for Southeast Asia's Energy Future
With the finishing touches at Akatara nearly complete, Jadestone is gearing up to deliver consistent energy to Indonesia for years to come. And who knows, this collaboration between Singapore and Indonesia might just be the blueprint for future partnerships across the region.
