GAIL’s Strategic Growth Plans
To address domestic energy challenges, GAIL has announced a major infrastructure expansion with planned capital expenditures of ₹10,000-12,000 crore over the next three to five years. Key projects include:
• The Kochi-Mangalore-Bangalore pipeline,
• The Gurdaspur-Jammu pipeline, and
• Petrochemical projects such as the Usar Propane Dehydrogenation Polypropylene unit and a 1.25 million tonne PTA facility in Mangalore, both scheduled for completion this year.
These investments aim to improve India’s energy supply chain while positioning GAIL as a leader in infrastructure development.
Focus on Sustainability and Policy Advocacy
Gupta highlighted GAIL’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2035, accelerating its previous target of 2040. This ambitious sustainability goal will require an estimated investment of ₹38,000 crore.
On the regulatory front, Gupta urged the Indian government to address key industry challenges in the upcoming Union Budget. He called for the removal of the 14% excise duty on CNG compression charges and advocated for including natural gas under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) framework to streamline taxation and reduce costs for consumers.
Summary
GAIL’s focus on infrastructure growth and sustainability, coupled with its advocacy for policy reforms, positions the company to navigate a complex global energy landscape. However, high oil and gas prices and regulatory challenges will continue to impact the sector in the near term.
