Albania has secured EUR 114 million in German-backed financing for investments across its energy sector, supporting the modernisation of the electricity transmission grid, the rehabilitation of a major hydropower plant and energy efficiency improvements in public buildings.
The agreements include EUR 90 million in loans and EUR 24 million in grants, strengthening Albania’s efforts to modernise its energy infrastructure and improve system efficiency.
One of the agreements focuses on the digitalisation of Albania’s power transmission system, including the automation of processes related to substation connectivity and grid management.
The investment could help improve the efficiency and management of Albania’s transmission network while supporting the country’s broader energy infrastructure modernisation.
A second agreement will support the rehabilitation of the 250 MW Vau i Dejës hydropower plant, one of Albania’s most important state-owned energy assets.
Supported by the German government and development bank KfW, the project builds on ongoing modernisation efforts at the facility and aims to strengthen the performance of a key part of Albania’s electricity generation infrastructure.
The third agreement provides a EUR 24 million grant through KfW to improve energy efficiency at the Qyteti Studenti student dormitory campus.
The funding will support building renovations designed to improve living and learning conditions while reducing energy consumption across the facilities.
Together, the three agreements highlight a broader focus on grid modernisation, reliable power generation and energy efficiency in Albania.
