Breakthrough for Collaboration

Seatrium has secured a prestigious contract with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) to implement the P-84 and P-85 Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units for Petrobras. FPSOs are purpose-built vessels designed for offshore production, storage, and offloading of Oil and Gas, and play an important role in remote deepwater operations. This partnership represents a significant leap forward in the Asian offshore Energy sector in terms of decarbonisation and digitalisation. The partnership aspires to set new standards for conduct in environmental sustainability and operational efficiency through the application of technology to predict and monitor the impact of production in the region.

Advanced technological integration

P-84 and P-85 FPSOs incorporate technology that enhance performance and reduce the environmental impact. This achieved though, among others, zero routine flaring and venting, variable speed drives, and sophisticated CO2 capture mechanisms. These innovations enable a 30% reduction in Greenhouse Gas emissions compared to traditional FPSO designs offering users the option of increasing output without increasing emissions.

Environmental Protections and Operational Efficiency

Seatrium's partnership with ABS will be closely watched across the marine and energy sectors to determine how leveraging advanced digital technologies will impact lifecycle services for existing and future projects. This approach includes condition-based classification methodologies, which improve operational uptime and streamline maintenance through data-driven insights, which identify issues in real-time allowing for rapid resolution, saving the operator costs and affording environmental protections.

Global Trials and Technological Advancements

The collaboration involves a series of joint trials, including the application of 5G-enabled remote inspection solutions. These trials will be conducted globally across Seatrium’s shipyards, ultimately resulting in standardised remote inspections for Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects, as well as repairs and upgrades. This initiative will allow operators to meet environmental obligations without breaking the bank.
